LARC Testing with Prime Equine
A simple yet powerful way to
WHAT IS LARC?
LARC is a cutting-edge test that gives us instant feedback on a horse’s internal stress and systemic function - right after a run or workout.
It tells you if the effort was
-
๐ญ๐จ๐จ ๐ก๐๐ซ๐
-
๐ญ๐จ๐จ ๐๐๐ฌ๐ฒ,
-
or ๐ฃ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐ซ๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ญ.
In less than 20 minutes, this test evaluates key biomarkers that reflect the possibility of:
-
Lung inflammation
-
Respiratory bleeding (EIPH - even with or without Lasix)
-
Muscle fatigue
-
Pain or systemic strain
-
Overall fitness adaptation
This isn’t a guess or a gut feeling. It’s a science-based way to see what your horse is telling you - from the inside out.

Why I Chose to Become LARC Certified
I’ve been in this game a long time - as a mounted shooting competitor, former barrel racer, and retired equine first aid instructor. I’ve seen the heartbreak of horses pushed past their edge—not from neglect, but from a lack of information.
โ
We ask for 110% effort every time we swing a leg over, and most horses will give it - even when their lungs are struggling, their body is fatigued, or their internal systems are fighting to keep up.
โ
I chose to bring LARC to Prime Equine because it’s objective, fast, and rider-friendly. It lets us finally ask the right question:
โ
“Was that too much? Or is my horse truly conditioned to handle this level of work?”
โ
LARC fits seamlessly into my approach: prehab over rehab, putting the horse first, and optimizing for longevity, performance, and recovery.
WHEN SHOULD I LARC TEST?
LARC should be used:
-
Right after competition or training exertion
-
Before pushing conditioning levels
-
When something feels “off,” but nothing’s visible
-
To monitor Lasix effectiveness
-
To screen for the potential of respiratory bleeding risk
-
As a routine wellness check-in throughout a performance season
Also consider LARC if your horse:
-
Refuses the gate or alley
-
“Shuts down” under saddle
-
Recovers slowly after runs
-
Shows coughing or nasal discharge
-
Is labeled “lazy,” “dull,” or “difficult”
-
Suddenly underperforms without a clear cause
โ
Sometimes it’s not the training. It’s not the footing. It’s not even their mind.
It’s their lungs, muscles, or systemic inflammation - and LARC lets us find out right now.
